Devil worship. Sort of. The Masque of the Red Death is classic, full-blown Corman/Price/Poe combination with the colour dial turned up to 11. Sympathy for the Devil is about Marxism and the nature of the creative process. Possibly. You can never be entirely sure with Godard. Still I prefer Sympathy for the Devil. It's fascinating and arresting in a way that the horror cannot be. Just don't go in expecting a Rolling Stones biopic.
