What a tough pick considering they're both in my Top 10 sci-fi's all-time

That's a particularly tough one. Sunshine is clearly very inspired by Alien, but does it improve on it? TOO HARD!

I think Sunshine was extremely immersive and beautiful (probably one of my favourite cinema experiences to date), with some truly memorable sequences, with great effects (particularly sound in my opinion) and soundtrack as well as being incredibly underrated, but was let down (slightly) by an incongruant third act. Alien was also technically brilliant and one of the most influencial films of the genre, with some of the best, most unique designs in any film to date and better acting and script, but I feel that it is let down by the fact that I don't find it that scary. While I enjoy Sunshine more as a film, I am going to award this to Alien because it is a better constructed film, and because of the impact it has had on the history of Sci-Fi, plus the fact that Sunshine took a lot of inspiration from it.
